Foreword to the creation
If you ask a fragrance buddy what our brand “Duftkumpels” stands for, most would say that our core competence lies in perfumery in the following areas:
Authentic, natural raw materials of the highest quality.
Extravagant recipes with an above-average oil concentration.
Rarest raw materials such as gazelle musk, ambergris, castoreum, civet, sandalwood and agarwood are among the treasures we work with every day.
Lately, however, we have been increasingly asked for an oud-centric perfume creation, a solitary oud fragrance in which all other ingredients are merely accompanying and never steal the show from the agarwood.
The challenge:
A pure oud fragrance
Although we already offer creations with combinations such as rose/saffron/oud, oud/gazelle/sandalwood/flowers, and oud/fruits/balsamic resins, we lack a pure oud composition. This is surprising, especially since we are considered a "distributor of high-quality agarwood essences in Germany," yet we don't have a pure oud perfume creation!
Therefore, we decided to develop an oud creation in Extrait de Parfum quality that will make the hearts of oud lovers beat faster.
Choosing the perfect oud
We didn't want to create a "fallen" oud perfume, but rather to prove that agarwood can also be soft, round, and smooth—with spicy, fruity, and floral notes, but always within an oud framework.
The goal: an oud creation unlike any other fragrance buddy has ever experienced. On our journey to create a loving and smooth oud that still retains the typical agarwood accords, we finally found a wild oud that completely won us over.
The pricing of an exceptional oud perfume
Genuine, wild oud can easily cost over €100 per milliliter. In a 30-ml extrait de parfum creation, you need at least 3 ml of pure oud oil to create a dominant agarwood heart note. This amount results in a production value of approximately €300 for the oud oil alone.
Added to this are other ingredients, so the retail price for a 30-ml bottle is around €400-500—purchase price, of course. This explains why some creations reach prices in the four-digit range.
The artistic aspect in perfumery
Perfumery is often considered an art, comparable to painting or sculpture. In addition to the raw materials, you must pay for the talent, dedication, and time that go into creating a unique fragrance.
If you're looking for a true work of art, you have to be willing to invest in it.
The Oud Symphony by Purple Papua
The fragrance composition of Purple Papua combines a blend of Thai and Cambodian oud, with notes of sweet grass and green accords reminiscent of the rare **Green Papua Oud** by Ensar Oud from 2019.
