The Duftkumpels Atelier in Hamburg

Every single Duftkumpels flacon is made at Möllner Landstraße 117A, 22117 Hamburg. No anonymous production site, no contract filling by third parties – but a workshop atelier where raw materials are weighed, compositions are matured, flacons are filled and numbered by hand. This place is the heart of our company.

Why Hamburg?

For centuries, Hamburg has been one of Europe's most important trading cities. Spices, tea, coffee, frankincense and exotic raw materials from all over the world arrived through its port – and still do today. When a shipment of Aquilaria oil from Thailand arrives in Germany by air, Hamburg is often the first place it is stored.

This geographical proximity to raw-material imports is not a romantic detail but a practical advantage: we inspect every batch directly on delivery, store it under ideal conditions and avoid the long transport routes that are standard in other industries. Our oud, our deer musk, our ambergris – everything comes through Hamburg.

Address and how to reach us

Duftkumpels Workshop Atelier
Möllner Landstraße 117A
22117 Hamburg
Germany

The atelier is located in the east of Hamburg, well connected via the A24 motorway and reachable by public transport. By appointment we invite you to visit – whether for a personal fragrance consultation, a look behind the scenes of production or a bespoke consultation.

How a fragrance is created here

Step 1: Raw-material selection and inspection

Every new batch of raw material – oud distillate, rose absolute, sandalwood – is assessed by nose, compared with reference samples and documented. Only what meets our quality standard goes into production.

Step 2: Formula and preparation

Existing formulas (such as Ambra Al Hambra) are prepared according to precise recipes. Each ingredient is weighed individually – for some raw materials to the hundredth of a gram.

Step 3: Maceration and maturation

After blending, the composition rests for at least 4 to 8 weeks in dark glass vessels. During this time the raw materials "marry", and the fragrance becomes deeper and rounder. An extrait without maturation smells like separate parts – a matured extrait works like a single molecule.

Step 4: Filtration, filling, numbering

After maturation the extrait is cold-filtered, pipetted into the prepared flacons, labelled and numbered by hand. Every flacon carries its batch number – a quiet promise of traceability.

Visits and workshops

The atelier is not a public shop – we are primarily a production site. But we regularly open our doors for:

  • Personal fragrance consultation (approx. 60–90 minutes)
  • Bespoke consultations (first session of a bespoke perfume process)
  • Small-group workshops on topics such as "Understanding Oud" or "Composing an Attar"
  • Individual visits for collectors by appointment

All appointments are arranged exclusively on individual request – you will find more information on our consultation page.

Transparency as a principle

That we disclose our address, premises and production process is not a marketing trick but a consequence of how we see ourselves. Anyone offering genuine raw materials at honest prices has nothing to hide. Our collection – from oud to attar to the complete perfume portfolio – is the result of this transparent craft tradition.
