About Duftkumpels
We believe real fragrances know no compromise. No synthetics, no mass production, no marketing promise without substance. Only real raw materials, real craft, real passion.
The vision
Duftkumpels was founded in Hamburg in 2013 with a simple idea: make niche perfumery accessible without giving in on quality. Every fragrance should be the best the raw materials of this world can offer – real oud, ethically sourced deer musk, beach-found ambergris, castoreum.
We are not a corporation. No marketing team. No celebrity testimonial. We are perfume enthusiasts who turned their passion into a profession – and share the results of that passion with the world.
The raw materials
Every raw material at Duftkumpels is traceable. We know our distillers personally. The oud from Cambodia has a distillation year, the deer musk a CITES certification, the ambergris a documented beach-find location.
- Oud: From Cambodia, Thailand, Assam, Borneo. 100% Aquilaria.
- Deer musk: CITES-certified. Ethically sourced from controlled sources.
- Ambergris: Beach-found. Legal in the EU. Naturally matured.
- Castoreum: From regulated North American sources.
The craft
Every fragrance is blended by hand in Hamburg. Weighing raw materials, preparing at extrait de parfum concentration (25–40% fragrance oil), maturing for weeks, filtering, filling into flacons one by one. Our batches are deliberately small: 20–100 bottles per edition.
The perfumer: Attar G
Behind every Duftkumpels flacon stands one person: Attar G, perfumer of the house. He blends every fragrance by hand in Hamburg — from weighing the raw materials through weeks of maturation to filling and packaging. No production step leaves his hands.
He does not buy raw materials from a catalogue. He knows the distillers personally and travels to the sources himself — most recently to Ethiopia in August 2026, straight to the raw materials. What he brings back ends up documented in the flacon: distillation year for the oud, CITES certificate for the deer musk, beach-find location for the ambergris.
If you want to read him: On the blog he writes about oud, ambergris and the craft — no detours. And if you want to hear from him directly, sign up for Attar G's correspondence: mail only goes out when a batch drops.
