Why Thailand
In fifteen years from a side note to the world’s most important oud origin.
Until the early 2000s almost the entire Thai output was absorbed by regional markets — Thailand itself, Malaysia, Singapore, the Gulf. Falling wild supply in Cambodia, strict CITES enforcement in India and the professionalisation of Thai plantation agriculture shifted the global balance. By 2015 serious niche houses in Europe and North America were openly building releases around Thai oud.

The east
The provinces of Trat and Chanthaburi along the Thai-Cambodian border combine ideal climate, soil and agricultural expertise. Most of the Aquilaria crassna plantations driving modern Thai production are concentrated here — and this is where the distillates on our shelf come from.

The scent profile
Bright and resinous on opening, with a pine-like freshness and minimal barnyard character. In the heart: clean wood, incense, a distinct cathedral-like quality that is unmistakable once you know it. The dry-down is long and smooth — sweet wood, dried herbs, soft balsamic warmth. Ten to fourteen hours, with remarkable consistency across the wear.

Plantation is not a flaw
Thailand has been a pioneer of sustainable plantation agarwood; cultivation is actively promoted by the state as a high-value crop. Well-aged plantation material from Trat is often indistinguishable from wild material — and in some cases superior, because the distillation is better controlled.

The value
Quality Thai oud is priced below Cambodian and dramatically below Assam. Not less valuable — different. Where Assam convinces with earthy force, Thai oud captivates with fruity elegance: Assam demands, Thailand seduces.
